Inside the Specs: Toolcat Utility Work Machines by the Numbers

Inside the Specs

Toolcat™ utility work machines are similar to other products in the Bobcat® product lineup — they are compact in size and powerful tool carriers. These machines were designed and built for a wide variety of market segments, including commercial groundskeeping, maintenance of large properties and surface landscaping tasks. The versatility gives you a competitive advantage right from the start.

Because no other machines compare to the Toolcat 5600 and 5610, it’s impossible to compare specifications to other manufacturers. Instead, understand the specs and how they relate to power, performance and size as you compare them to utility vehicles or compact equipment.

  • Size - In order to get the most out of any piece of equipment, you have to make sure it can access your jobsites or work areas, and then have the capability to do the work once it’s there. Before you purchase, you’ll want to look at the dimensions of the machine, including its width, height and weight — to ensure it will go where you need to work.
  • Performance - Rated Operating Capacity (ROC) - So, how much will the Toolcat 5600 and 5610 lift? The number you want is the ROC. It’s the safe load-lifting ability of the machine. The higher the ROC, the heavier the load it can lift and carry safely. In most every case, the maximum load it can lift is limited by the hydraulic capacity of the machine or when the load being lifted overcomes the weight of the machine and tips it forward. Both Toolcat models lift 1,500 pounds 7 feet high with the front-mounted lift arm.
  • Maximum Cargo Box Capacity (Maximum Load) - It’s the amount of weight that can be loaded into the cargo box. The maximum load of the Toolcat 5600 is 2,000 pounds. The cargo box measures 56 inches long and is more than 4 feet wide. The Toolcat 5600 is standard-equipped with hydraulic dump, making it easy to spread heavy loads of sand, dirt or other granular materials. The Toolcat 5610 has no cargo box, but simply hook up a hydraulic dumping trailer and haul your cargo to its destination.
  • Machine Rated Capacity - This is the combined weight of load on the lift arms, cargo box load and operator and passenger weight. For the Toolcat 5600, one example could be 800 lb. on the lift arms plus 200 pounds for the operator and passenger, plus the cargo box load of 1200 pounds. The three numbers added together equal the machine’s rated capacity of 2200 pounds. The Toolcat 5610 has an identical rated capacity.
  • Total Vehicle Rated Capacity - When towing weight is added to the machine rated capacity, the sum is considered the total vehicle rated capacity. This is considered the maximum load on the work machine from all sources. The total rated capacity for the Toolcat 5600 and 5610 is 4200 pounds. [NOTE: The machine’s tow weight capacity is an impressive 4000 pounds. And both models use a 2-inch receiver system so hitch styles and offset can be matched to pull-type attachments you already own.
  • Engine Horsepower - The Toolcat utility work machines have a 61-horsepower Bobcat diesel engine. The engine horsepower generates more hydraulic horsepower when it counts —under tough driving conditions or for enhanced attachment performance. When compared to a gas engine, a diesel engine can provide more torque, be more fuel-efficient, operate more quietly and in general, the engine lasts longer. Travel speeds are zero to 8 mph in low range and reverse, and zero to 17 mph in high range.
  • Hydraulic Performance - The operator can use a maximum hydraulic flow of 18.9 gallons per minute at 3000 psi, or 27.9 gpm with the high flow option for powerful hydraulic attachment performance — even at low travel speeds. Although Toolcat utility work machines have lower lift height, they have better boom reach and excellent lift capacity, balance and maneuverability — important features when performing a wide assortment of material handling tasks.

But inevitably, the question will be asked: How does a Toolcat utility work machine size up to a skid-steer loader? Well, the work machine is not an excavating machine. However, it does have excellent attributes for performing surface landscape tasks, like landplaning and landscape contouring. And although Toolcat machines’ hydraulic breakout forces are not as strong as a skid-steer loader, they are far better than other utility type vehicles. When you compare the higher travel speed, seating capacity and total vehicle capacity, its alignment to a skid-steer loader becomes clear.
